Project Goals
The whole reason speedshot was born was the existing free, easily available tools were slow to use. Programs like windows paint were costing time and causing supreme iritation, because they were built as general purpose tools. It's the swiss-army kinfe syndrome. A swiss army knife (or leatherman etc) will get you out of an untold number of pickles where you didn't know you were going to need... for example, a screwdriver. But if you know you will be driving a couple of hundred screws, you would never intentionally plan to do it with your swiss army knife. Specialized tools are almost always faster (if you happen to have one!). SpeedShot is a specialized tool.
Because SpeedShot specializes, it can dedicate the primary user interface controls to the key task at hand. The design of SpeedShot specifically aims to minimize both keystrokes and mouse gestures in the process of generating a screen capture. In the simplest case you can have a screen shot saved to disk with the following sequence (on windows)
In order to retain its speed and simplicity the feature set of SpeedShot is intentionally limited. Feature creep is the ultimate enemy of a tool like SpeedShot. The following features will never be added:
